Easy Baby Quilt From a Pre-Printed Panel

I love to make baby quilts. Can you think of a faster and easier quilt than one with a pre-printed quilt panel in the middle? The center panel is from Timeless Treasures.

The back is finished with footprints in the sand. The quilting design is ocean waves.

The fabric line is called Splash. This novelty children's line has a beach theme and lots of fun sea life from fish to whales.

The selvage is marked PATT # FUN-C2622.

I only had the center panel. There were so many water prints available that it was easy to find something to match the theme. Prints such as the ones below would also make good borders.

The panel itself measures approximately 23" x 44".  It would make a long and skinny quilt if you leave the panel as-is and add borders. I decided to cut the middle square out of the panel.

To make my quilt:
(1) Cut 1/2" around the center square design. The new panel block will measure 22 1/2" x 27 1/4".
(2) Cut 2 side borders from yellow fabric. Each side border will be 27 1/4" x 1 1/2". Actual border sizes may vary depending on the size of your center piece.
(3) Sew side borders on.
(4) Cut top and bottom borders from yellow fabric. Each border will be 24 1/2" x 1 1/2". Actual border sizes may vary depending on the size of your center piece.
(5) Sew top and bottom borders on.
(6) Cut 4 strips of outer border fabric. Sew on sides and then the top and bottom of the quilt. Actual border sizes will vary depending on the size of your center piece.

My finished quilt measured 34" x 38 1/2".
